THE FIRST STEP: YOUR BOTTOM LINE WHY

You’ve made the decision to improve your memory and your outcomes in life and that’s the all-important first step! This is one of the most powerful exercises and tools we can share with you and we sincerely hope you’ll use it! Understanding the core driving forces that move us to want to change and grow and achieve things is essential and this exercise helps us do this. It also generates a powerful tool we can use every day to stay aware and energized as we face our challenges. Okay so if you’re not familiar with the term, a “mindhack” is a technique for rapid advancement towards our goals using everything at our disposal in our mind-body tool bag.

THINGS YOU SHOULD GET FROM THIS MINDHACK:

  • The importance of self assessments
  • Identifying the things you want to change
  • Identifying the benefits of changing
  • Coming up with your big “Why” to help power you forward!

Congratulations! You’ve taken an important first step to your mastering your life each day! The first Mindhack we will do is taking a personal inventory of our life. The first step in going somewhere isn’t just knowing where you’re going, it is knowing where you are.

Self assessment is a vitally important and powerful tool for anyone working on improving conditions in their lives. Very often we go from day to day living on automatic not thinking about why we do what we do or even that we are doing what we are doing. We do things out of habit.  Optimally our habits support our goals but often they do not. In the coming sections or Mindhacks we will work on becoming aware or mindful of our habits while adding more good habits that form the building blocks of a healthier happier more fulfilling life.

If you were going to get directions to some place using Google Maps you need to first tell it where you are before it can help you plot a good course to get there.  So the first step is to do a self assessment or personal inventory in order to see where we are now and get clear on why we need to change and improve ourselves.

Stop for a moment and consider all your current problems and challenges in life. What are the things you really want to change and feel you must change? Write them down on a piece of paper and use cursive “hand writing” to do so. Physically writing and using cursive instead of typing is important because the ideas we write go straight to the subconscious parts of our mind.

Draw a line down the middle of the paper and write down a list of everything you would change if you could to make your life better today! Now on the other side of the paper describe the outcomes of having changed those things for the better.

How would your life be more enjoyable and fulfilling to you if one by one you changed those negative elements and outcomes to positive alternatives? Write it down now.

How would you feel physically and emotionally as those challenges are replaced with achievements? Would you have more energy? Would you smile? How would you breathe? Would your stride be more peppy and confident? What does your being happy and more successful look and feel like to you? Would you dress differently?

Take a moment now to take a deep breath or two and imagine how it would feel to have better physical health. What would that allow you to do in life and how would that add to your happiness. How would your overcoming your personal challenges and having a meaningful career or business that you find rewarding feel to you when you start your day each day? What would it feel like to have a healthy fulfilling relationship with someone special?

What would be possible for you to do and achieve in your life once you change these challenges into achievements? Could you travel more? Where would you go? Could you have more leisure time with your loved ones? Would you be healthier? Would your loved ones be better provided for? Would you enjoy more time with your loved ones? Write a brief sentence about the new freedom you would enjoy once you transform each one of your challenges into achievements.

This exercise will help you get in touch with the all important “why”, the reason why you really want to create positive change and improvement in your life and use it to power you forward blasting past your conscious and subconscious barriers. Keep that in focus and you’ll have more energy and resilience as you work on achieving peak memory, focus and performance in your life.

When you consciously decide your own focus then you get to decide how to interpret what you see and what your next action is going to be! Keep reminding yourself your own “why”, your driving purpose… “because my kids” or “because my wife/husband” or “because the world needs me” or “because I love traveling” or “because I’ll feel great!” or “because the world needs me” oh wait I said one already! But you know what? This world does need you! It needs you to be the best you you can be so remember you are very important.  Write down your bottom line Why! Circle it!

Now draw a line under the work you’ve done on the page and write your “Bottom Line Why” benefit of achieving the success you want in life. Understanding the “why” of your desires for success and self-improvement taps into your emotions which powers you forward enabling you to blast past your internal and external barriers to success in life.

Now this is important: Read your list every day.  Keep this list in your wallet or purse. Read it before you start your day. Read it as often as you can.

Overcoming our challenges happens the same way in which we find ourselves immersed in them, one step at a time! Those steps are created by the choices we make and the habits that our choices lead us into developing in our daily lives.
