VISUALIZATION

“I believe that visualization is one of the most powerful means of achieving personal goals.” Harvey Mackay

Visualization is an incredibly powerful Mindhack peak performer tool for using the conscious and subconscious mind to set a course for our lives that helps us achieve and be more. Individuals who have attained record breaking levels of success consistently attest to using visualization to improve their confidence, performance and to manifest their goals. Lets look at how you can achieve more too.

Professional sports stars have improved their free throw percentages and golf scores by visualizing themselves with the perfect form or perfect golf stroke time after time. Actor Jim Carrey used visualization and counts it as a factor in creating his successful career. He wrote himself a check for ten million dollars and post dated it 1994. In 1994 he learned he got the movie role of Dumb & Dumber for which he would earn exactly ten million dollars. Kerri Walsh and Misty-May Treanor champion volleyball players report using meditation, yoga and visualization to stay focused on success and win.  Actor, world champion body builder and California governor reports using visualization like this.

“I had this fixed idea of growing a body like Reg Park’s. The model was there in my mind; I only had to grow enough to fill it,” he explained. “The more I focused in on this image and worked and grew, the more I saw it was real and possible for me to be like him.”  ~Arnold Schwarzenegger

Byron Scott of the Los Angles Lakers would visualize himself hitting free throw after free throw before stepping to the line to shoot and reports a large increase in his success percentage.

Studies have found our brain interprets the things we see and visualize as events actually happening to us. This is why when watching a horror movie our heart rates increase and our brain releases stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline just as if we were in actual danger. This is yet another reason to filter out the negative violent influences from our lives including what we do for entertainment.

Before you give that important business presentation or attend that interview, take time and close your eyes: visualize the performance going on just as you want it to. See your audience nodding and impressed with your presentation. See the members coming to you after the presentation to congratulate you. If you’re taking a test see yourself doing so and easily answering every question correctly. This exercise increases the feel-good hormones in the body and improves the general disposition of the mind for success.

When you begin your visualization practice take several slow deep steady breaths in and out to relax your mind and body. In NLP or Neurolinguistic Programming there’s a technique called dissociation. Basically the idea is to see oneself living out what you’re envisioning through your own perspective first then switching to seeing yourself in that reality as though through another spectators eyes. Take note of how you feel in each instance as you seek a positive emotional charge to attach to the experience feel free to allow yourself to smile even laugh and enjoy it.

As kids we used to call this “day dreaming”. This is how our mind deals with creativity and takes time to relax so it can be more productive. If we cannot see it we cannot achieve it.

If you’re working on remembering something important to you take a moment to close your eyes and see it in your mind’s eye. See the words on the page, hear them being spoken, see images that symbolize or depict whatever your reading and see yourself interacting with the information.  The brain has more area devoted to special relations than anything else we do. We get most of our data during communications from the facial cues of people we talk with, not their words.  So use the power of visualization to boost the performance of your brain and achieve your goals and live a happier healthier life!
